Child Rights - by Mohammad Azim Khan Keyani

Child Rights
By Mohammad Azim Khan Keyani

CRC ion November 1990 by Pakistan was ratified
Rights of all children be ensured who would feel satisfied

How can any convention in a country be enforced
Unless legislation is done and by parliament endorsed

Institutions to safeguard child rights suffer from mismanagement
They are weak, lack resources, and overall commitment

Mostly they have to rely upon mercy of bureaucrats
If politicians are not sincere, same is case with technocrats

At societal level between women and men there is discrimination
It affects maternal health, female literacy and participation

A division in society by poverty has been created
Concrete actions not taken, children problems merely debated

Child labour in the country has very wide prevalence
Low literacy, high mortality, and morbidity require more surveillance

Human lives have little value with quite bad conditions
How can a society prosper in ignorance and feudal traditions?

Health
Children die from diarrhea, measles and low birth weight
Malnutrition, malaria and pneumonia decide about their fate

Antenatal and postnatal care has not been better organized
Well being of our children before is jeopardized

At primary, secondary and tertiary levels health care system comprises
Due to so many weaknesses most people prefer private enterprises

In public health facilities health services are subsidized
Still general public from these services is not satisfied

Unfortunately, public sector expenditure on health is quite low
People hardly get any treatment, to government facilities when go

There is lack of planning and health sector suffers from mismanagement
Good doctors, nurses and other staff must get encouragement

There is gender imbalance, focus on preventive aspect is insufficient
Health staff is mostly absent from duty and also inefficient

Performance of public sector is poor, people have less confidence
They have to thinkmany times before leaving the residence

Health needs of majority people, private sector does cater
More people believe their services than public sector are better

In private health sector there is need of legislations
To discourage quackery must be made rules and regulations

It is bad luck of country we take it as a fun
Rough ratio of quacks to doctors is three to one

In rural and poor urban areas non-formal medical practitioners operate
People are so ignorant and with them still cooperate

People consult practitioners for services on reproductive health and sexuality
They deal in surgery and dentistry, know nothing in actuality

These medical practitioners are like butchers, this is a reality
Their only purpose is to grab money and have low mentality

Knowledge is very little, however, they have extensive reach
People should be careful from them, there is a need to reach

In this situation how their future will become bright
We must endeavour to give our children their health right

Education
Education be made free, easily accessible and compulsory
To increase literacy rate these things are quite necessary

In education sector have been used, lot of energies and forces???????????
With less attention on free, compulsory education and sufficient resources

Different experiments were conducted but all efforts failed
People responsible for low literacy must be jailed

When budgetary allocations for education will remain low
Progress in literary rate will definitely be slow

Why have we not been able to utilize money efficiently?
Please get rid of mismanagement, it is requested obediently

Problems of education sector now have become immeasurable
What needs to be done to overcome is not easily measurable

Perhaps to put education sector on the right track
To all black sheep we shall have to sack

If we want that enrolled children in schools should stay
Education be made attractive and grounds to play

There are many schools with poor or no structures
How students can learn something and listen to lectures

Most schools hardly have facilities of water and sanitation
And we are expecting from them quality education

With little or no training, many abusive teachers
Are source of students dropouts these ‘gentle’ preachers

A large number of teachers from schools remain absent
In selection of subjects, parents hardly get students consent
