Gender Based Violence - by Mohammad Azim Khan Keyani

Gender Based Violence
By Mohammad Azim Khan Keyani

Should speak up and try to break the silence
Role of institutions in important in combating gender based violence

Police and judiciary should be considered on the top
If they are sincere, gender based violence can stop

Two basic social institutions can play a vital role
Depends a lot on ‘community’ and ‘family’ as a whole

For distressed women should establish crisis centres
Provide legal, social and economic support wherever she enters

If we are really interested in problem resolution
Must gender sensitize each and every social institution

Media, judiciary, police, social leaders and family structure
Including policy makers, if want, can change whole culture

To legal professionals, staff of education and women police station
Gender awareness training be provided without further hesitation

In streets, offices, supports or at any residence
Totally be eliminated any kind of gender based violence

Policy strategy be gender based, result based and convincible
Formulated in cooperation with govt. NGOs, donors and be sustainable

Legal system may be more effective and gender sensitized
Justice be speedy, cheap, and must not be biased

Public, government, NGOs and donors with better coordination
Can create gender awareness and ensure better implementation

When women like men, are equally even more faithful
Should vet curriculum from text which is discriminatory and hateful

Gender sensitization is needed for lawyers, judges and teachers
Should also include government policy makers and religious leaders

If certain checks are required to be imposed on bureaucracy
These are also needed for religious schools and theocracy

A strong support system for all women be decided
Statistics on violence and urgent relief be provided

Laws supporting women by parliament be endorsed
Then by concerned authorities be fully enforced

All discriminatory laws should be repealed or amended
Women’s problems must be considered and properly attended

Women be provided necessary support and help
An effective gender based legal system we develop

A very fair social justice system be established
All forms of discrimination against women be abolished

Men should not be neglected from process of socialization
Special programmes and models are needed for men’s sensitization

If efforts by media, govt., and pressure groups are initiated
A gender sensitized society may easily be created

If media plays its positive role with fairness
It will not be difficult to create gender awareness

Rather to reinforce women and men traditional role
Media may project diverse portrayal of both as a whole

Commonness of violence against women be highlighted
Each member of society then with media be delighted

Gender gap within educational curriculum be removed
In text with gender discrimination, changed be introduced

Gender sensitization is required for all policy makers
Not only frame rules but implement as care takers

If God has created both men and women as equal
Then nobody can make their rights as unequal
